Up a Mountain – Wallace Hut…

Part 3 of Up a Mountain, I sort of forgot to finish this up…oops!

…The last place we stopped for a visit was called Wallace Hut…again, no dogs allowed as it is also part of the Alpine National Park so I waited with Larry – again!…

The Humans walked in from the car park to the hut…

The frame against the chimney is temporary..the history of the hut is on a Parks Victoria information board:

“Handmade in 1889 from snowgum slabs and roofed with woollybutt shingles, Wallace Hut has survived the extremes of the Victorian high country.

With simple tools (most likely a broadaxe, crossed saw and an adze), brothers Arthur, William and Stewart Wallace built the hut with timber found nearby.

The Wallace family grazed their cattle on the Bogong High Plains between 1869 and 1914.

Each year they would drive the stock up for four days to reach the summer feed.

The hut provided welcome shelter for the graziers after a long day in the saddle.”

The Human had a good look at the hut and the views from around the hut area…

I checked out the view from the car park…*sigh*…

Up a Mountain – Fainter Falls…

After we left Bogong Village we were driving along up the mountain and there was a sign for Fainter Falls and the Humans thought that sounded like a nice place to visit so we stopped for a look.  My Human went to read the sign to see how far in the walk was and there on the sign was a notice that dogs weren’t allowed so I had to wait in Larry…*sigh*…

So the Humans went for a walk in to see the falling water…it isn’t too far in off the road, only about 700 metres…and at the end of the path this is what they found…

Pretty…

The end of the path was the viewing area with the information board and next to that were some steps that led down to the base of the falls…of course the Humans could not resist and had to check our where the steps went…they were a bit rocky and steep but not too difficult, then the path went over the creek and along the creek on the other side about 200 metres to the base of the falls for a closer look…the Human told me that it was a nice walk in and the falling water was nice to look at.

Then Larry took us for more driving and we continued up the Mountain.  We went through a place called Falls Creek which apparently has lots of stuff called snow when it is Winter but it wasn’t snow time yet.

Up a Mountain – Bogong Village…

While we were at camping, on the day called Good Friday, the Humans took me for a tour around the area and we went up a Mountain…

About half way up the Mountain in the Alpine National Park is a little place where humans live called Bogong Village…

Bogong Village

The Village is on the part of the river where the Junction Dam is built, part of the Kiewa Hydro-Electric Scheme.

While Larry had a rest in the car park we went for a walk…across the dam wall to the other side…through a tunnel…

It was a loonnngggg tunnel...

it was very high but I was brave…because it was like a cage and I knew I wouldn’t fall out…whew!…

I climbed up and down lots of steps…I am a good step climber…

Up I go..

We just had a little explore around the dam and the lake formed by the dam…the village is quite small and when you drive in from the main road down to the lake you’ve pretty much passed through the whole village but it is very pretty there…

What we saw…

Below the dam wall...

The dam lake...

Autumn colour...

Mosses and lichens make rock walls pretty...

Then it was time to go back to Larry and keep going on up the Mountain…

Kiewa Kelpie…

The Human and I went camping for Easter…I hadn’t been camping before…I liked camping…Larry drove us North East for a long time…then we came to a really big creek called a river…the Kiewa River…we went to a friend’s place and there was a house there just for us…

The Taj Mah Tent...

Can you see the river there right in front of where we were staying?

A closer look…

View from the Verandah...

I checked out the river…

Looks OK so far...

Mmm...what is this?....

All OK over here too...

Once I’d checked everything…

Camping is hard work...

I’ll come back later and show you what else we did…
